Bengal drubbed Orissa by an innings and 48 runs on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Ispat Stadium in Rourkela today. This was Orissa’s 15th defeat and 13th by an innings in 16 Ranji Trophy matches against Bengal. This was also the second defeat for Orissa at Ispat Stadium, the third first-class venue of the state.
Bengal cleared the road for the thumping victory by taking a first-innings lead of 151 runs. Riding on a half-century each by Jiban Ghosh and Gopal Bose, Bengal made 287, in reply to a modest total of 136 by Orissa.
The home team folded up for 103 in the second innings to suffer yet another innings defeat. Allrounder B Sridhar Alva was the only Orissa player to defy the domination of Bengal. He scored 31 runs in each of his two innings and also bagged three wickets for 66 runs.
